1949, when Harold Leventhal first met Pete Seeger and the Almanac Singers, he
nurtured, managed and presented the icons of the folk music community.
Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Joan Baez, Judy Collins,
Peter, Paul and Mary and hundreds of others owe Harold Leventhal a debt
of gratitude for being the one of the first to recognize their artistry and
nurture their careers. This poster maps out Harold Leventhal's 60 years as manager,
concert promoter, impressario, and producer in the music business.
This folk art poster was
created especially for the occassion of Harold's 60 years in the business
by Woody Guthrie's sister, Mary Jo Edgmon. At this rare gathering,
an eclectic array of artists participated in the Tribute to Harold Leventhal
held at Carnegie Hall in November, 2003. The performers included Arlo
Guthrie, The Weavers (Pete Seeger, Ronnie Gilbert, Fred Hellerman), Peter,
Paul & Mary, Theodore Bikel, Leon Bibb, Eric Weissberg
and Erik Darling.
