will be digitized and catalogued for future research access.
NEW
YORK STATE LIBRARY GRANT was awarded to the Archives to
conduct a collection wide preservation survey; a first step toward
ensuring that long-term steps are taken to properly preserve the
collection.
RIZZOLI
PRESS has published the first ever collection of Woody’s
artwork. Designer Steven Brower and Nora Guthrie selected over 400
works of art from the Archives, the Smithsonian Folkways Archives,
and from private collections to create “WOODY GUTHRIE;
ARTWORKS”.
The Archives
collaborated with curators at the Experience Music Project
Museum in Seattle, Washington on BOB DYLAN’S
AMERICAN JOURNEY 1956-1966. The exhibit, which includes
an important section on Woody’s influence, contains numerous
items from the Archives and will be touring the country in 2005
through 2007.
The Archives
contributed to Martin Scorsese’s documentary BOB DYLAN;
NO DIRECTION HOME which aired on PBS American Masters
series this fall. The film includes extensive Guthrie Archives materials
including photographs, original lyrics, artwork, & rare Guthrie
family home movie footage.
Following a

when Guthrie served as a contract artist assigned to write songs
for the Bonneville Power Administration, a U.S. government public
works project.
JIM
POLLARD transcribed a newly discovered, handwritten play,
“My Forsaken Bible” written by Woody
while at Greystone Hospital in 1955. We are looking into a possible
