Currently Theresa
is teaching third grade at Baker Demonstration School, the lab school
for National Louis University, where she is an associate professor. A
long time lover of folk music, she designed and implemented this thematic,
integrated curriculum with her second/third graders. Theresa is the 2002
recipient of Chicago's Kohl-McCormick Early Childhood Award and is noted
for her innovation. If you peek into Theresa's classroom you may hear
her students belting out "Union Maid," "Roll on Columbia" or all 14 verses
of "Dust Storm Disaster." Theresa put her own two children to bed every
night by singing "Hobo's Lullaby." Theresa is an active member of Old
Town School of Folk Music as well as The Chicago Area Writing Project.
She is a frequent presenter at the Illinois Reading Council. For more
insight read about her class at the demonstration school in Harvey Daniels'
Literature Circles: Voice and Choice in Book Clubs (Stenhouse Publications,
2002).
